Hale Naturals: Powdered Peanut Butter PPB

As a Nutritional Therapist I LOVE walking around health food stores looking for new ideas and foods I haven’t yet discovered like last week when I visited @Shop4Supplements. James had brought in some Powdered Peanut Butter (PPB ®!) and realising I had never heard of it before, he set me up with the challenge to write a short review piece about it… So here goes! Though they are called ‘pea-nuts’ or ‘ground nuts’, peanuts are actually not nuts- they are a legume similar to beans and lentils. Naturally cholesterol free, and high in protein, B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, Biotin, flavonoids, phytosterols, fibre and monounsaturated fats, peanuts and peanut butter can help to keep you feeling fuller for longer, regulate blood sugar levels and support protein intake, supporting cardiovascular function, weight management and muscle recovery. As a child I LOVED peanut butter. As an incredibly picky eater it was in fact near enough the only food I would eat without an argument! Breakfast time- peanut butter porridge. Snack times- spoonful of peanut butter. Lunches- peanut butter sandwiches. If we went on holiday my parents would have to take at least three jars with us for emergencies and that was even if it was in the UK! Many supermarket brands contain high amount of refined sugars, vegetable oils and processed salt- a combination of food ingredients which if eaten frequently has shown to raise your risk of health problems including inflammation, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. At that time however I didn’t understand that the added ingredients in the mix weren’t particularly healthful for me and later swapped over to sugar free varieties that though were still deliciously flavourful I had to learn to moderate due to the high level of fats. Hale Naturals Powdered Peanut Butter use only the finest peanuts, slowly roasting them before they’re pressed to remove the majority of the fats and oils. This results in a dry peanut butter flour with high levels of protein and fibre but much less fat- ideal for anybody measuring their macro’s, is vegetarian or who (like me), loves the flavour of peanut butter with just about anything! Ideal with a pre- or post- workout snack or sprinkled into or over your favourite foods, if you love peanut butter but want to keep your fat intake under control, you will love the versatility and choice of PPB ®!  Simply mix 2tbsp of with 1tbsp (approx. 12g) of water and stir until smooth. It can be used to make peanut spreads, smoothies, homemade confectionary, homemade flapjacks and protein bars, baked foods, seasoning blends, as a frosting and filling, in sauces and dressings, homemade ice creams… the list goes on! I played around with various ideas and found it worked brilliantly sprinkled directly into my goat milk yogurt, my post workout shake and my jumbo oat porridge, as well as over my Asian themed meals like pad thai, chicken satay and over my favourite meal of miso-cooked buckwheat with sardines and lightly steamed vegetables… As a keen sport and fitness enthusiast with a majority of clients from sport and fitness related interests, this has been a fantastic find for introducing some much needed new variety to my own and many of my client’s meals. Being strong in flavour and so easy to mix, I found a little goes a long way and is well worth the investment. A surprising mouthful of peanut-buttery yumminess... Go and Try It!
